Standard Work Execution

PURPOSE

Standard Work Execution establishes a consistent process for completing routine tasks and procedures using documented best practices.

By performing work the same way every time, employees improve quality, increase efficiency, reduce errors, and deliver a consistent customer experience.

Without standardized work, employees develop different methods for completing the same tasks, resulting in inconsistent quality, reduced productivity, and unnecessary mistakes.

PROCEDURE

  • Review the applicable Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) before beginning the task.

  • Gather the required tools, materials, equipment, and resources.

  • Complete each step of the procedure in the prescribed order.

  • Follow all quality, safety, and compliance requirements.

  • Verify that each task has been completed accurately before proceeding.

  • Document required information, results, or observations.

  • Address and report any issues, exceptions, or deviations from the standard process.

  • Complete all required cleanup and return equipment to its proper location.

  • Confirm the work meets company quality standards.

  • Identify opportunities to improve the process and submit recommendations for continuous improvement.

SUCCESS BEHAVIORS

The most effective leaders consistently:

  • Give feedback regularly, not just during formal reviews.

  • Recognize accomplishments as often as they address challenges.

  • Coach with the intent to help people grow.

  • Listen before offering solutions.

  • Set clear expectations and measurable goals.

  • Follow up on commitments made during the review.

COMMON FLOW RESTRICTIONS

Performance reviews lose value when managers:

  • Save all feedback for the annual review.

  • Focus only on mistakes instead of growth.

  • Give vague or subjective feedback.

  • Avoid difficult conversations.

  • Fail to document goals and action items.

  • Never follow up on agreed improvements.
